New Airway Analysis Tech: Airwave Oscillometry System (AOS)

Airwave Oscillometry System (AOS) - a new 'airway analysis device' which asses both large and small airway function - is starting to make an appearance in some Treatment Centres (USA, Canada??). According to an Asthma.net Article, this Device could well be part of the future for Airway Analysis.

If anyone's encountered this Tech in action in the UK, please mention when responding to this Post.

I know Portable Spirometers are already sold in the UK, so maybe (someday) there'll be something like a Portable AOS Device too.

Full article (by Patient who's experienced the New AOS Device) on link below.

Had a look. Will make a more informed diagnosis. However, unlikely to improve treatments which need improving. The new device ignores the muscle behaviour that needs to be improved. Muscle behaviour improvement is an area that is in the complementary and generally ignored by the traditional medical.

The new machine does not measure the tightness in the rib cage which has an influence on breathing.

I have had this test several times for clinical studies at the Brompton. I believe it not only allows for a more confident diagnosis for asthma but also the ability to distinguish asthma and other lung diseases/conditions.

It is quite a nice procedure once you are used to it and can relax, the sound waves pulse through your lungs and chest giving you the feeling of a massage on the inside!

Do you happen to know if this Test is now in 'Wide / General Use' at the Brompton, or if it's only being provided to a limited group of Patients so as to evaluate whether to role out Airwave Oscillometry System (AOS) to all Brompton Patients?

Thanks for your original Comment and anything else you can add. (Appreciated)

I have no idea how they use it, I used it about 2 years ago for a study regarding the best inhaler to use for exercise induced asthma.

I have participated in other studies and never used it.

It was so strange I took a pic of it, it is the contraption bolted to the table

Thanks. Looks Enormous in your image. Was thinking it was going to be a fairly modest piece of kit. This link I've just attached goes to a webpage with what seems to be a much more modest Airwave Oscillometry System (AOS). Have a good weekend. trends.medicalexpo.com/thor...
