Running with Asthma tips?

Hi does anyone have any tips for running with asthma? Starting back into it but my chest is on fire after less than 5 mins. Does a face scarf help at all or just restrict breathing?

Thanks

I dont do running lol, but for other exercise I take my reliever inhaler ten mins before I start and I do find that helps. I also find scarves helpful when exercising outside in cold air, so might be worth an experiment or two!

Good luck!

I take my reliever inhaler 20 mins before I run and make sure I have it on me. I also have a buff to cover my nose and mouth if it’s cold- usually just for the first 5-10 mins. I’ve found running has really helped to improve my asthma and feel worse when I don’t!

I’m wanting to get back into running after a horrible chesty virus that has knocked me for six the last few weeks. It’s a hard one isn’t it? I feel better when I run but unsure when and how to restart! Definitely will be trying out a buff when I do eventually get out!

I find breathing in cold air causes asthma while running. I’ve tried using a mouth covering and yes it stops asthma but it does restrict air it’s the lesser of the two. Personally I use a treadmill in cold temperatures now

Thanks everyone. Do yous do any warm up routine if you run outside? like walk about in the same temp?

I should but don’t🤔. If the temperature is low I do treadmill or slow run. Keep the speedier runs for higher temps

It may be worth asking GP is they can do long term preventer inhalers as well. When I did Karate I took about 10 mins before which helped.

I experience the same thing but I have no tips. Not being able to run is so hard. Comforting to know I’m not alone. Curious to see what others have to say.
