Fever

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. So my dad came down with a fever of 39.7, he’s feeling weak and is coughing pretty bad. Could it be anything sinister? Is 39.7 dangerous? We’re abroad atm and the emergency hosp we went to said they’re only seeing people with cardiac arrests?! How silly! He was advised to take medicine over night to see how he feels. We used a oxymetre to check his oxygen and heart rate. Heart rate is 122 and oxygen level is 97.

Any suggestions please?

Oh no! Where are you? Is it just that that hosp is over run and under staffed atm? Is it worth finding one elsewhere? His HRs a little high but I think with fever/illness that’s to be expected... sats are fine tho! 39.7c (or 103f) is quite a high temp! Have you try paracetamol (as a fever reducer), increasing fluid intake and wearing light cloths etc? You could also try I room temp bath/shower (not hot but not cold either as that could cause to big of a shock to the system). Alternatively you could try putting cold water bottles under armpits, either side of neck and between legs (through light clothing). These are all home remedies for the fever tho and won’t deal with the underlying issue. I’d strongly recommend finding another hospital if you can! Good luck and I hope you find help somewhere and that he feels better soon

Thanks for your reply :)

Putting cold under his armpits really helped bring the fever down.

We managed to get him seen by a private clinic here and it turns out that he has streps throat! Along with a sinus infection. Prescribed antibiotics and nasal spray. X

You’re welcome - Glad it helped and that you managed to see someone (hopefully without having to sell a kidney 😉). Hope he starts to feel better either the ABs and spray! X
