I’ve been given an asthma rescue pack by gp, but not any real guidance on when to commence it. I’ve caught the dreaded cold and my chest feels a bit tight. I’m currently prescribed fostair and montelukast. Any advice would be great 😔

Rescue pack
Hi
Historically (on old asthma UK action plans) the pred rescue pack would be ‘activated’ when hitting/maintaining in yellow zone, I think in the new plans it’s in the ‘other advice’ box in yellow zone. More advice is always to inform the GP if you’ve started your rescue pack.
Generally advice from GPs is sporadic as very few actually give a guideline as to when to start rescue pred and/or ABs 🙄.
Hope that helps and that you feel better soon x
My doctor doesn't give rescue packs anymore it was steroids and antibiotics for`just incase ' you sound like you need these to keep away what's brewing and the rescue pack won't harm. It's Christmas and you don't want an attack. Stay well. Best wishes😀
Only you know how you feel. If you feel really quite poorly and the ventolin & fostair are not helping, you should consider it. If you are constantly gasping at the blue inhaler definitely take the rescue meds!
Rescue packs are on repeat prescription list because you know when likely to need them.
In my case the only time I take prednisolone is when I get respiratory infections so once a year ie started 27/12/17 ill all through Jan 2018 and again 5/12/18 started infection and 11/12/18 started prednisolone.
You know your triggers and if you are using up too much ventolin. Ie from Monday 10/12 to Mon 17/12 I used one whole ventolin inhaler (60 doses)
