Have you been given guidance on how & when to use the rescue pack? As most of us on here aren't medically qualified, it's a bit hard to say whether you should or shouldn't really, but if you're given rescue medication, it should really come with some clear guidance for usage.

Whilst lots of people have rescue antibiotics which ultimately are fairly harmless things to take, prednisolone can have some quite serious side-effects if mismanaged, so I would seek medical advice to be honest.

Usually rescue prednisolone is for when a trigger flares asthma over a period of time ie my GP put prednisolone as rescue for flare ups. I only need prednisolone when I getbad respiratory infections. Antibiotics alone do not work for me.

I have rescue pack on repeat so I can order take 5days if no better see Dr.

I had to have about 12 days prednisolone last January around 5th Dec this year started to get an infection but was due blood test on 6th so got Sputum pot.

Infection kicked in with avengence on the 8th and then had appointment booked for GP on 10th handed sputum pot in to find out if bacterial on viral but asked for my rescue pack to try head off worst of it.

Thurs so bad ambulance came was nebuliser. Fri saw GP sent me with letter to A & E as sputum said bacterial infection Maxillus Catarrhalis.

They did chest xray bloods and nebuliser was given.

They determined best antibiotic because have contr-aindications with other meds and gave me another 5 days prednisolone with an appointment to come back Monday to see Respiratory nurse.

Point is Rescue Prednisolone in my case is I order as soon as I need to at sign of chest infection start taking and GP has said if no better can get appointment for more if they think need it.

You should be given guidance if they have put on repeat rescue packs.

Thankfully, I only seem to need prednisolone once a year when really poorly. This is first year ever experienced having nebuliser.

I am also extremely lucky this is first time had to go to hospital because of my asthma.

I should take a sputum sample to your asthma nurse/GP before starting your rescue pack, so they can check what bugs (if any) you might have.
