I would like to share with you a poem I have written about my traumatic asthma attacks as a child, and how Stan Lee's Mavel comic creations actually saved my life!

It has been so well received I decided to share it with you. Please let me know your thoughts about it. I look forward to hearing from you.

Pat

"Super-Hero"

Created by the Jews,

Combating the tribulations of the downtrodden.

A voice for the many...illustrated by the chosen few.

Escapism....

Works of art.

Illustrated to empower those that… like me, felt lost……

Forgotten.

Tiny splashes of realism...

Hidden messages drawn on paper… bursting with colour.

Bringing hope anew.

The ill and poorly one!

While others play....

I am locked away.... again!!!

The weak one...

The black sheep one.

Incarcerated in a cell called "My room!"

Fighting hard to supress the envy of siblings whose separate roars of laughter merge as one.

Laughter....

Like the ever-witnessed rays of moon and sun.

Streaming through windows, opened for life giving air.

I lie there....

Vertical....again!

My eyes staring towards the ceiling.

Again....and again....and again....and again....and…

Groundhog Day!!

Choked and wheezing.

Chest tightening....too hard to breathe.

Sputum blocks my airways....

Gasping!

Invisible fingers helplessly grasping

For that cracked open window air.

Airways locked tight.

Another death defying night

of rattling chest.

Ribs protruding....

Decompression sickness crushing my very core.

Caved in stomach

Shaped like a human hammock.

My Kryptonite!!

Dust mites, dog hair,

Pollen, animal fur,

Grass, exercise!

Would you believe it!!!

Eating turkey at Christmas?

Unwise.

For the likes of me.

My red towel.

I blow my nose in it everywhere I go.

I lumber this ragged cloth around.

Comfort blanket carrying Pat!!

I used to nod and agree with that.

But now.....

Now I see it as my cape

My one bit of super-hero uniform....

Aiding my escape.

From the illness that consumes me.

Trying hard to destroy me....

But....

I am stronger than that!!!

Reoccurring thoughts of suicide are yet again crushed to pieces!!!

Bam!!!

Pow!!!

The weak, feeble me is

TRANSFORMED!

Watch in awe as my repressive wall of hopelessness is smashed….

by the mighty fists of the super-hero that stands before you….

REBORN!

Stan Lee said the greatest super power is luck, because when you have it, everything works out for you. You don’t need to be able to fly or shoot laser beans from your eyes to be a superhero, just a bit of luck and you can do anything.

I absolutely agree. Luck....and a belief in yourself and your capabilities can be the most powerful thing any person can ever have!
