Mannitol Challenge

Has anyone had this done? Mine was today, I’m not sure if I got a positive reading. Now got the wait for the MDT to discuss it all before I hear anything.

Hi

I’ve done it in the past. Easy way to tell if it’s positive is if you had a drop in your spirometry/felt symptomatic, which them improved/was relieved by your salbutamol. Usually they inform you as to the results at the time, but sometimes they don’t.

Whatever the result, hopefully your MDT will come up with a plan for you which helps.

I hope that helps

Hi, thanks for replying. I had a slight drop, then on the final go it did properly drop. It said on the screen something like administrator medication as had a reaction.

I just don’t know whether it was the 10% drop they needed. It was all relieved after a nebuliser.

It’s just so frustrating when everything takes so long for them to decide on and organise. Like my consultant said he was going to organise the mannitol challenge at the beginning of April and it’s taken until now to have it. 😡

If it said to administer meds due to reaction then it most likely fell low enough to be positive, especially if they gave a neb afterwards.

Yes waiting times are a pain, but at the moment it’s all we can do unless you’re willing to go private 😒 x

Hiya yes I’ve had it done but it was stopped on test no 3 as drop was significant. Went to mdt and now approved for fitst Mepo injection on 6th November so here’s hoping this works :)

had this test and didn't react. Gotta wait for MDT to decide what they are going to do about it. Negative result doesn't rule out asthma!

they’ve told me before mannitol isn’t conclusive, I’ve not had mine yet -I got sent an appointment then couldn’t make it then ended up on steroids 🤦🏻‍♀️

you haven't? I thought you'd said in the op that you had a drop?..

Funny how they often order this test and yet it can often be inconclusive!!

I did but have been told it isn’t always conclusive in asthma diagnosis
