Cold remedies
Many cold and flu remedies as I expect you are aware are not suitable for people with asthma. I am a health care advisor with a high street chemist (as well as having asthma) and my heart sinks when anyone who is asthmatic with a cold asks for advice.
Personally I take paracetemol for the aches and pains, sore throat etc use steam inhalation if I am really bunged up and use vapour rub at night.
I try to up my vit. C intake either through food or supplements and take zinc as well. I also find nasal rinses really good or just saline in a spray as you can use this as much as you like. I increase my inhalers as well as per my asthma plan and try and rest as much as I can.
Hope you feel better soon
Not everyone has ill effects with Lemsip and the like. I don't. However, you know what else you take and how you feel, so a talk with the chemist is a good plan, or just try it and see!
Hi Atom1 I find Echinacea really helps to beat a cold. It's a natural remedy from a medicinal plant. I take it when I feel I'm starting to get a cold and I'm convinced it helps to prevent it. It also helps to relieve the symptoms of a cold.
Thanks. I'll look out for it.
If I have a stuffed up nose I use a vick steam inhalation and find that helps both with the nasal congestion and clearing anything from my chest. It is old fashioned, but as far as I know it is not a problem to use with asthma medication.
