If I'm referred to a London hospital from Southend hospital, as asthma is very bad at the moment, I've read somewhere that London hospital has more funding and there is also a injection that I could have. Have you any information on this please, as asthma is getting worse and I at least have 1attack a week.

Hi, do you have a consultant you see at Southend? Have you asked them for a referral as it certainly sounds like your asthma is not under control!
There are actually a few places in London with specialist asthma clinics that also offer these injections - most people think of the Brompton but there is also Guy's where I go, and UCH now also has a difficult asthma centre. Even if you aren't eligible for the injections in the end you may still benefit from being seen and assessed by them - I still am under Guy's even though I am not currently eligible for any new treatments, with access to their services like the specialist nurses. They keep assessing me just in case I might have some eosinophils hiding somewhere so I can qualify...
In my case I was seen at another London hospital but the cons there felt that he wasn't really able to help me further and that I should be seen at a specialist centre where they had access to the latest treatments. He suggested the Brompton and I asked for Guy's, then he wrote a referral direct to the cons there. I think you may also be able to do it via your GP but the best way might be to talk to your team at Southend about the injections and ask if they could refer you.
If you get stuck the Asthma UK nurses I am sure will be able to help out, as they're very good with this kind of thing as well as the specifics of asthma. There are also others on here receiving the injections and/or attending one of the specialist clinics in London who I am sure will be able to help. Happy to tell you more about Guy's if it helps!
I was diagnosed initially with Eosinophilic Bronchitis/Asthma in October 2017 been ill on and off for 20months stacks of steroids prednisolone, inhalers etc ie fostair, spiriva and ventolin blue.
I've been in Hospital 11 times majority in an ambulance emergency chest infections ect.
I have a consultant from the start went into hospital 20 months ago with a virus pneumonia. Now starting on the injections on Thursday the drugs called Omalizumab ( Xolair ) What I understand theirs alot of people on it i am on steroids at the moment.
Hope this helps and all the best for the future. Harry. Hope you let us how you get on.
I am under the Royal Brompton Hospital and have found them to be very good indeed, I do know that they do injections treatment.
The latest new drug is MEPOLIZUMAB which is in a monthly injection. I’m in Jersey & I’ve had 15 now for very unstable eosinophillic Asthma. The blood results were EXCELLENT virtually from day one but my horrendous breathlessness is unchanged.
Push for one of these drugs, tho there’s strict criteria.
Good luck!!
Keep in touch if you’d like to compare histories etc.. messsge me privately.
Take care!
Rose
