It would appear that being asthmatic in thunderstorms is like having a really rubbish superpower!

I know they’ve being forecast but it appears I can tell exactly when it’s approaching us as it feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest!

I also have this useless superpower! Have discovered I can also tell when a plane is descending before it's announced, and tell the difference in pressure between the ground and 96th floor of a building (went up a skyscraper, didn't even expect there to be a difference, discovered there is).

If I don't know why my lungs are acting up, it's usually safe to blame the weather. Human barometers R us...

😂 I find it best to try and see the funny side of it as other wise I just wouldn’t cope!

Totally right about the change in air as you go further up a building, happened to me the other day and I just assumed I was unfit! I probably am, but my asthma probably had something to do with it too.

I would normally assume the same re being unfit, but I was fine when I stepped into the lift and noticed after it started (it was a fast one to get up all those floors), and while I was up there. I just put up with it though as I'm.used to being breathless and this was tolerable if not ideal.

Definitely see the funny side - I also have a useless power to detect small amounts of stuff I react to, and like to joke that I should be employed in quality control as eg I can tell you right off that Radox lavender shower gel does not contain lavender, however convincing it smells! The other day I had a mini attack from a sip of a cocktail with a tiny amount of rosewater in it. Annoying as I love to sample cocktails and had no warning this had a problem substance. Will Google all ingredients next time.

Yes I’m usually affected by this too

Wish people properly understood what we have to put up with. My boyfriend was shocked when I said my chest felt tight the other morning but it does most mornings and clears up. Told him that if I didn’t do stuff every time my chest didn’t feel great, I’d never go anywhere.

Yeah humidity is rubbish!

It reminded me of that bit in, ‘Titanic’, ‘smell ice can ya?’

Definitely! People who aren’t used to me think I come across as blasé but my casual humour is my coping mechanism

Yep and when you learn to live with it you just sort of let it happen !!!! Although each chest infection makes me more miserable !!! They (consultant)don’t think I have asthma although all my symptoms and meds are asthma related and the 3 chest infections minimum a year indicate something is not right !!!! But need to laugh it of at times !!

Ah well of to get some sleep before the next storm !

Any surge in atmospheric humidity brings me that asthmatic feeling when the weather's cool. I use the meds only when I can't fight the weather with aspirin and hot drinks - bit.ly/salamol and facebook.com/aspirin2relief/
