son had antibiotics for chest infection, finished a 10 day course on Friday, he's still coughing, not seeing consultant again until the end of may, do I take him back to GP, or wait for lung to recover?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeh, ya gotta take him back as it could develop into something much more sinister especially if its not cleared up after a 10 day course of anti-biotics..

Or..

Take him to A&E and that may be a way of fast tracking to see the consultant before end of May..

I have had asthma all my life. Now 62. After chest infections I find that the cough nearly always takes another week or two to go . With me it seems that it takes that time for my lungs to recover and lose the twitchiness caused by the infection . However,if I find that the goo I cough up is not clear in colour after a course of antibiotics I go back to the GP . If cough only and I feel well otherwise I wait a week or two.

I hope this helps but if worried at all and especially if your son seems unwell still.......go back to the GP.

I'd leave it for a bit. If you think the cough is worse, or if it is distressing him, then you should see the GP. It is quite likely to clear itself up in a week or so, though.

I'm concerned because, he's been coughing since November, only when seen by consultant and having x-ray showed infection, might they have not worked because he's had it so long ?

thanks for reply x

I think you should let him stay home, take rest, take natural remedies or instant relievers. As sometimes cough takes time to go after infection. If it is like he's coughing like during the infection, then take him to GP. I think wait for 2-3 days. It happened a lot with me. I can understand.

Hi

I tried (twice) to send you a pm about your last post but for some strange reason Health Unlocked won't let me send it. Don't understand why they won't let me contact you. We are following each other.

I am so upset with health unlocked Admin as they sent me the post then won't let me write to you. Also I don't really have the time to spare , so unwell myself, just thought I could help.

I did try.
