Hi new on this board, in the middle of a nasty flare, following flu last month, feeling pretty grotty, loads of mucus and horrendous cough. Went to a Dr appointment today to find they had booked me in with the wrong person, have to go back tomorrow

I hope you soon feel better - do you have a management plan to help when you get a flare-up (e.g. doubling up on preventer)? I hope they get you to the right person anyway soon - that's very frustrating!

I have a management plan , but the bits on increasing inhalers etc she has left blank, I was off my inhalers completely for 2 yrs, but prior to this they just put me on a very tiny maintenance dose , when I asked them to restart them in January, they just put me back on the same one , I don't think it is strong enough

It's absolutely not my place to advise you on medication, but suffice to say that increasing a preventer dose is quite common. Whilst you're waiting to see the right person, I'd give the AsthmaUK nurses a ring. They are obviously far more qualified than me to suggest options for you, & might be able to reassure you about increasing dosage (or not).

Hi, I am recovering from flu too. I was in hospital for a week! I am still struggling to get around. Flu is no fun. Hope you get to see the right doctor tomorrow. I will only see one of the GP's at my surgery. None of the others understand my condition. It is just easier to see the same person. Unfortunately he isn't in every day. Take care and feel better. x

Hello Eileen54

I have also had flu this week and my lungs have been full of mucous. Apart from my inhalers I find what has helped me immensely is drinking tea made with fresh ginger and lemon with honey. The heat from the grated ginger being the crucial ingredient. Use plenty of ginger and it cuts through the dampness in your lungs and helps loosen it. Also if you can do a cupping/tapping massage on your pectoral area and get someone to do it on your back. This helps to loosen the mucous. I thenI do the exercise the physio gave me when I was in hospital. Breathe in and then breathe out with a thrust and try and push the mucous out.

Best Wishes. 😊

Asthma nurse increased my Clenil inhalor to 3 times a day. If that doesn't work go and see a GP beginning to wish I had just made a GP appointment in the first place
