Hi everyone. I've just found this site.

I am a 53 year old woman , diagnosed with asthma approx 8 years ago. I have many allergies including ventolin.. I really struggle in my normal life as I am afraid to push myself. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. Love to hear from you

Lynn

Hi there I’ve had chronic asthma for 40 years and now copd so I understand how your feeling.Ive had a lot of bad experiences with meds over the years.I have lots of allergies too.I Take fenofexadine it’s a powerful antihistamine and it helps a lot I also try to control my breathing with supplements such as vitamin d3 and omega 3 Plenty has f filtered water and I also find that essential oils such as lavender and eucalyptus helps.I take a medicine called phyllocontin which may help you it relaxes the lungs and helps protect from allergens but it’s not for everyone but it’s something you could ask your doctor about.Hope this helps.

Hi Lynn. I’m not technically allergic to Ventolin but don’t use it because it makes my asthma worse not better. GP put me on Bricanyl instead, which works fine. It felt like a miracle after years of using Ventolin but no help. Thought I was imagining it until I researched things a bit on Google. Starting with Ibuprofen as a known trigger for me, I found it is made from salicylic acid, which is also in Ventolin (or salbutamol - hence the sal - google it) and in perfumes, another of my triggers.

Exacerbations bit easier to cope with now I know Ventolin doesn’t suit me. Hope that helps a bit.

Sorry to hear that...sounds like a real problem. Would be interested to hear if you manage to solve it.

Hi Lynn, I’m not allergic to ventolin as such but can’t take it as it increases my heart rate dangerously (I also have an heart problem). I can however take the reliever Bricanyl which contains terbutaline rather than salbutamol. I have also in the past used combination inhalers such as symbicort as a preventer and reliever. In terms of allergies, there are a whole range of things you could try which depend upon you individually (I take 2 antihistamines, nasal spray, eye drops and montelaukast to control mine) I would recommend talking to your asthma nurse or the helpline to see if any of these would be suitable.

Hi Lynn, I am 64 and have suffered from allergy triggered asthma all my life so I understand the impact it has, not pleasant at all. I just have purchased a Himilayan pink salt inhaler and have used it for the first time last night so too soon to report long term results. Having said that my chest does feel easier this morning and I have read up a lot about it on the internet and peoples experiences seem to be overwhelmingly positive overall. If you do decide to try this therapy make sure you buy a ceramic inhaler (not plastic).

I hope you find some relief soon.

Ben.
