My daughter has brittle asthma and is 11 years old and currently on 4 hourly inhalers antibiotics and steroids this has been ongoing for 2 weeks normally 3 days of pred shes back up and running but 2 weeks later still whezy !! Anyway i have had no sleep and i feel i cant cope i feel extremely anxious and am so worried shes going to stop breathing especially when she is at school i know it sounds silly but i cant shake this feeling!!im normally very strong never show im stressed or anxious but think 11 years of it as sent me to breaking point!!! I mentioned to the doctor about possibly applying fie DLA and hes refering me to social services he said someone there can help me with this don't really know what im asking prob just want to get things off my chest but maybe if anyone one else is feeling the same or anyone been referred to social services regards to dla x

A big hug first from a mum. I not able to imagine your position. I want you to know I here for you. I have three daughters who I would do anything for them and I feel your anxiety. I recommend you ring the asthma UK helpline see asthma UK org. The nurses will listen to you and help you. They are a great listening ear I know I rang them many a time when I needed a listening ear as well as information on asthma.

Hello, I’m from the US. So please excuse my questions, if they seem silly to you. Terms between our 2 countries are amazingly different. What is DLA? I’m not a Mom of any human children, but if you don’t have any children you’d be stunned at how you become attached to your pets! People sometimes dismiss this as being ridiculous, but it’s real. We have had cats, our last one just passed at the end of October. I don’t know why I’m saying all of this except to explain that I’ve been a nervous anxious wreck, over their health. BUT, I have anxiety also. And you mentioned being strong, and yet anxious, it happens. Don’t beat yourself up about it, first off. Your a mum, first and foremost. I don’t know if there is a stigma attached to whatever DLA is. If they offer real help, accept it without feeling weak. You are lucky there, aren’t you? Real question... because most health care is readily available to you? Or am I wrong? 2 totally different countries. I just really wanted to reach out to you, to try to let you know, that whomever are children are, we worry, and in no way do I put human children in the category of pets. Obviously humans are first. Tho some will disagree. A big hug, across the pond.

Please take any help which is offered to you. Of course you are worried and frightened for your daughter, but your anxiety is not helping you or her, so you must try very hard to get back to your former strength. Find out as much as you can about how to help her and remember that lots of mums on this site have children with severe asthma and they do find ways of coping in the end. There is no quick fix for you - oh how I wish there were! - but if you get some help from your GP, from family, perhaps, or friends who have children with asthma, you can find ways of being calmer. Talk to people. You are not alone.
