I am new to the forum and already had some real help from my first post. I have chronic but controlled asthma and have taken up doing a bit of swimming. Have others found this helpful and what other exercises do folk do to help lung capacity and strength?

My peak flow should be 420 for my age etc. It is 500 and this surprise my asthma nurse. She asked me if I ran? I said no I swim she said that explain it. So I say go for it take up swimming.
My peak flow should be about 450 but it's 630. It turns out that it was because I used to play musical instruments (flute, French horn and Flugal horn). Apparently singing is good too. Otherwise, I do walk everywhere, although that can be a challenge when I am bad.
Hi, I am a strong believer in exercise, however I don’t swim so much, and after not exercising for a couple of months for various reasons I feel worse for it
I am so glad you asked. First, yes, swimming is great for asthma. I am a runner with asthma and I alternate swimming and running days. Yoga is also great. Go to the following website to get the yoga sun salutation exercise- lifespa.com/how-to-do-sun-s.... I supplement this with five minutes of the Peaceful Warrior Workout. dailyom.com/cgi-bin/courses...
I find push ups to be very helpful too. I also do some tai chi. I suggest you read Patrick
McKeown's book, "Asthma Free-naturally." There are excellent breathing exercises in that book that I do every day.
