I am 66 and have had asthma from the age of 3 and have always been on asthma sprays. I recently ( during a very stressful period) had really bad asthma ( it is usually pretty much under control) as a result I have had tests and now on Fostsir and an extra spray called Bretaris (aclidinium) which seems to have helped - however they sent me for a CT scan - all clear but chronic asthma specialist says I have probably have some chronic airway remodelling. Quite worried about this. I am allergic to dust mites cats, etc and am also worse in the winter. Has anyone experience of going somewhere warmer in the winter to help with all this?

Chronic airway remodelling
HI there,
I feel for you, I have had asthma since I was a child, now 58, I was recently diagnosed with Mild Cylindrical Bronchiectstasis as well through a ct scan, but my consultant thinks this is either caused by chronic asthma/ airway remodelling, or a childhood infection, i.e. whooping cough.
I personally find that some winter sunshine, and seaside does make a huge difference. However, you do have to be careful that there aren't a lot of things coming into flower. I have ended up going on winter vacation and then getting massive hay fever and asthma attacks.
I would say it is well worth getting you vitamin d level checked and then really topping that up. I know that Vitamin d makes a huge difference to me. When I lived in Boston USA, my consultant would give me an injection at the beginning of the winter, then I took supplements all winter.
Best wishes
R
I am 41 and have had asthma all my life. I haven't been for a CT scan yet. They keep doing a spirometry test, but it doesn't show anything. I am due for some kind of test in January. I wouldn't be surprised if my airways have been remodelled. Suffering this long can't have been good for them. But on the other hand, it could be worse. We take what we have and get on with it. Good luck. x
