I have just read the article on airway muscles and their changing form and action. Is this due to calcium, the most abundant mineral in the body? If we take calcium for arthritis are we more likely to have asthma? Conversley if we reduce our intake of calcium, will asthma symptoms be reduced?

Back to that controversial subject of vitamins and minerals again. Not seen any research on calcium, but personally I'd say over the last 5 years or so my calcium intake is down on what it use to be, I now drink black tea, and only have milk in coffee, or porridge for breakfast, where as before I'd drink easily 8 cups of tea daily all with lots of milk, and I've got asthma since, doesn't mean much, but I have read that the airways in an asthmatic are constantly changing, and is assumed that this is what causes asthma maybe in the first place.
personally i think it a no - over the last 3 or so years i have had a very restricted diet when it comes to dairy - i don't drink/eat milk, cheese, cream .... i only have the very occasionall yoghurt an a tiny ammount of butter and my asthma has not improved what so ever - in fact i have had more problems in the last three years than before - so personally i dont see it would work but it might for others. xx
Airway muscles
Hi
I had allergy testing at a health food shop in town 2 years ago. I knew that I was allergic to fish and other things but the strongest intolerance result was against dairy products and bananas of all things. My other known allergies were positive in the result too. I did not inform the tester about my already known allergies. Any way after giving up cows milk and bananas and swapping on to goats milk my asthma has dramatically improved. I almost never need to use Ventolin but continue to use my preventer inhaler twice daily. I am 59 years old and have had asthma since being a small child although not diagnosed because of medical misdiagnosis until 16.
if i have milk my asthma gets worse, it is odd though because i can have lactose as it in all my tablets and it doesnt seem to affect me, it is just if i eat milk products. Or products with milk protein in. It makes me get more asthma symptoms.
