Hi there, welcome to the Forum. There is lots of great advice and support here. However we can't diagnose you. You should definitely see your doctor.

However on the basis of what you are describing you could possibly have Asthma. Do get it checked out, as having a bad attack can kill.

Let us know how you do

Hi,

Sounds like you definitely need a referral to a respiratory specialist. Just one thing - In Australia, the GP can handle asthma cases but it may be something else and it is important to see a respiratory specialist as they are more up to date and can do a greater variety of tests. Let your GP help you immediately but ask for a referral to a specialist. If your GP insists that you don't need to see a specialist and that they can handle it, either insist on a referral (It will probably take at least 3 months to get in to see the specialist) or else see another GP. I have had one GP refuse to refer me to a specialist as "GPs can handle it". I went to another GP. Someone who will not refer you is not worth your time.

Be careful. If you are very worried about your breathing don't hesitate to go to emergency or call an ambulance.

One other thing you might want to get checked is whether you are suffering from reflux. That is another thing that can cause breathing problems after eating or drinking.

Although I have had asthma for most of my 55 years and so know the warning signs very well, I got it wrong five years ago when I went to my GP after four weeks of breathing problems resulting from eating and drinking - something I had never suffered from before. I assumed my asthma had changed in some way - I was wrong. It turned out that reflux was the cause. I was put on Lansoprazole for a month to reduce the amount of stomach acid I was producing. One month later the breathing problems arising from eating and drinking had gone.

This doesn't mean you don't have asthma, you could have that too; there are a number of people on this forum who suffer from both.

Hi Aussieprincess

Welcome to the forum, there's some information here about diagnosing asthma and relevant tests. bit.ly/2qfBfGf

As reiterated on the thread, please do make an appointment to see your doctor.

Hope that helps,

Dita
