Help I'm at a loss...

I'm a 49 year old man... in relatively good health. I've always had mild asthma ever since I was a child. I suffered 1 attack when I was 6 that needed hospital intervention and nothing as serious ever since. I've enjoyed sport and exercise with little to no ill effects. I of course get wheezy and tight chested when I get colds and flu's but that's always been about it.

However......

I had a very bad flu this Xmas, the worse I've ever had to be honest. I started taking becotide (always had it on prescription but never used it) but ever since I started taking it I seem to be getting some strange symptoms.

Hoarse voice

Tight rib cage and lower chest

Reduced lung capacity..some days 450, some 600!

A constant feeling of not being able to take a deep breath

All strangely with NO wheezing, so its not like the asthma I love and know!

I went to the doctors who gave me Prednisone and it worked well however all the above are back. Could they be Becotide side effects related?

It could well be side effects, worth mentioning to your GP. Have a good day,let us know how you get on. Take care 😊 xxx Bernadette

It could be, though Becotide is one of the earlier stage medications, it is still a steroid. Have a word with your Pharmacist. There are many different inhalers out there now.

Make sure you drink water & rinse your mouth after every inhaler puff - that might help the voice.

As for the other symptoms, it sounds like you're still struggling so maybe you need another round of steroids/anti-biotics to shift it?

You will need to go back to the GP to find out if you still have an infection. In any event, Becotide may not be the right medication for you - how long have you had it lying around? It is true that many people on this site have recurring infections which is very frustrating - perhaps some good, warmer weather will help! You could also think about anything you might have developed an allergy to - see if anti-histamines work. In any event, I think that going back to the GP and having a proper talk about this should help.

Not what you're looking for?
