So day 3 in hospital still on regular nebulisers. They havnt added in any other treatments yet. But they want me to see the respiratory nurse tomorrow who will decide what is next. I'm currently on 30mg of prednisolone weaned from 40mg last week. And I'm on surdupla 4 puffs twice a day. What is the next thing they would add in?

Sorry to hear you're still in hospital. Depends what the cause of your symptoms are. If an infection then IV antibiotics and or IV Pred but it sounds very much like they want you of that. They could add extra inhalers and or tablets into the mix or they could try an injection. There's a lot of tools in the armoury before you need to worry about then not getting a handle on things. I know it's not easy but try not to worry about it too much.

Hope your on your feet soon x

They're not really sure. They want a sputum sample to see if theres any infection but otherwise they don't really know!

When I was younger I used to be on something called slophyllin. So I don't if that's something I'd have to go back on.

And do people have nebs at home? I'm just trying to think of ways I can get home safely xx

Hi Lucy,

Sorry I typed a response and it seems to have gone awry.

They don't like to send people home with Nebs as a rule unless there really isn't any choice, it's like Pred, once started it's difficult to come off as your PEF/FEV-1 takes a hit and symptoms get worse temporarily.

I've heard of Slo Phyllin as I understand it's a bronchodilator and is mainly used in severe COPD. It's worth mentioning that you've used theophylline in the past as they may want to give it a try, but it comes with its own issues.

I can completely understand your worry about getting home, but it could be making things worse, if you can, try and focus on getting yourself back up and running, then you can chase after everyone else.

Keep your chin up Lass and keep us informed. Sending gentle virtual hugs xx

Thank you for your reply. Yeah the respiratory nurse said they don't like people going home with nebs as I used to have nebs at home as a child.

I wil definitely talk to them about everything tomorrow, I'm going to write a list.

I think all meds have their down sides but I just want to feel good without having to be nebbed. I still can't walk far either.

I will keep you all updated

Xx

You're of course quite right, it's whether we can live with the side effects that's the true question. Hopefully things will become clearer tomorrow.

Yeah definitely. I hate steroid side effects my face is all puffy and I've put some weight on already. I just want to feel like I can breath. And not get out of breath having a shower
