Hi I'm after a bit of advice about what to do next for my little boy, he has been diagnosed with asthma (but hasn't had the tests as children have to be 5) he dusnt ever have the weese that people talk about but he coughs nd coughs during the nite till he's sick, he carnt run around properly as the cough starts as soon as he dus and at the moment he is really bad, so bad in fact that he said to me the outher day "Mam I'm never goin to get better am I" it's breaking my heart. So I'm just wondering if any one else has experienced this and has had any luck with treatment?

he is on a brown inhaylor morning and nite nd blue as nd when, nd he's also on antibiotics at the min as they think it mite b a chest infection but I'm not sure.

Hi, it must be very worrying and upsetting to see your son struggling. Wheezing is often a symptom of asthma but is not always the case (despite what some people think). Coughing and waking at night are classic signs of poorly controlled asthma and obviously if he has a chest infection he is going to struggle even more at the moment. There is a chance that at his age things will improve and "grow out of it" (fingers crossed) but even if that isn't the case there are lots of different types of treatment out there which should be able to offer good control.

If you haven't already done so it maybe worth asking to see an asthma nurse at your local surgery as they will be able to offer good advice to both you and your son, in addition you should be able to find plenty of information and advice on this forum and on the main Asthma UK site.

I won't say don't worry because it is only natural to do so but remember you are not alone and there is help out there.

Mark

Thanks for the reply, and the advice on wheezing as I always thought that was part of it,

He has seen an asthma nurse previously and is seeing one again tomorrow, so fingers crossed she can change his treatment and we can get him feeling better.

Hi hope your son is feeling better soon it's very scary 2 of my children and myself have asthma maybe he needs his inhalers changed might even feel better once his antibiotics kick in me and my daughter are allergic to dust ask ur doctor to refer your son for an allergy test hope he's better soon best of luck
