I am 52 this year. The last six months are a blurr. It started with a chest infection and a viral infection and 5 months later after 3 hospital admissions i am diagnised with severe asthma. Steroids didn't help, and now i am on 4 inhalers. I really need to loose weight and get active again. Any advise is always appreciated

Hello all
I am 23 and when I was 19 had 4 months exactly like you in and out of hospital bronchitis 3 times, cracked ribs from the constant coughing, doctors kept saying bacterial, viral etc etc by end of April I had Pneumonia ended up with horrendous scarring on my lungs and diagnosed with severe brittle/allergic Asthma! Absolutely awful isn't it?! My advice is to just persist with your GP every time you feel something isn't right get into them, it took me until about 10 months ago to finally properly be seen by a consultant even though I have been in an out of hospital monthly since he beginning and I have now started (Nov 16) fortnightly infusions for Allergic Asthma at the hospital. Keep pushing!!!!
Eat healthy and try going for jogs with anyone and play post and do exercises and gym to
Poor you sounds as though you've had a dreadful time. Re: weight and exercise making small sustainable changes is the best thing. For exercise I.e. Try and walk to begin with. Build it up to 30 mins a day. It could be 3 10 min walks. It may take you a while to get to that. Start with whatever you can manage. Then add minutes gradually. When you start to feel better try and add some gentle weight training. Big muscles burn more calories.
For weight, really look at portion sizes, weigh food. Use a smaller plate. Get rid of any snack foods in your house, even if you have kids. So biscuits, chips, crisps, sweets etc. Don't ban them just don't buy. Get rid of any fizzy drinks in the house, cordials etc. even diet ones. Cut sugar in tea and coffee too . And limit booze .
Don't eat in front of the tv. Sit at table and concentrate on what you are consuming.
Try and cook all your own food rather than ready meals then you know exactly what is in them.
Don't beat yourself up if you go out and eat a huge meal.
Never shop when hungry
Don't even think of it as diet.
Use an app to log everything you eat, my fitness pal is quite good.
I am sure this is old news for you. But it worked when I secretly got my husband to lose weight without him really even noticing.
Best

Hi there, miso soup with rice noodles is a good slimming meal, if you can tolerate the salt. there are some nice miso pastes on the market. I add fresh home grown chillis to mine, along with lots of cracked black pepper! Udon style noodles are nice too, not too much wheat in them. Also, interrogate any popular assumptions you may have about diet, exercise and metabolism- there are new ideas coming all the time from the science people, and too many 'perfect solution' self-appointed guru-type USA bestsellers adding to confusion. The weight training thing is good advice. Don't limit calories too much as it kind of trains the body to create more fat when it can.
