My GP advised me to apply for a Blue Badge. I did and had to attend my local council for an assessment by one of their therapists who told me that I am eligible for a badge. I was and still am very surprised.
I actually feel bad about being eligible for one and a little embarassed. Already I am thinking that I probably won't use it. I just don't think feel that my asthma/bronchitectasis are bad enough to warrant a badge, my husband says I am just sticking my head in the sand!
If you are entitled to it, you should take it. You don't have to use it all the time, but when you need it, it will be there.
There are so many people who forge blue badges that if you are entitled to a real one you should definitely take advantage and use it when you need it

They certainly don't give them out like smarties. As everyone else has said, better to have one for when you need it then struggling without it.
If I were you I'd have the blue badge you never know when you might need to use it.
I really don't think doctors have a clue about how things work. I used to have lower back steroid ijections and the doctor thought once I was on the hospital list that I could phone up the hospital and arrange for another....just like that.
They don't understand that Councils all over Britain are like little hitlers. I went for an interview at a hospital once and there in a super large room sat in front of me were 5 people ready to question me in depth about every aspect of my life. (was a part time filing job). When I walked in I said ..."what is this ?..."The Spanish Inquisition".....only one lady smiled and needlesstosay I didn't get the job........No sense of humour either if you ask me.
Sorry, but I'm inclined to agree with your Husband. I've had a Blue Badge since I 1st became ill in '98, I'm automatically eligible for one because I get High Rate Disability Living Allowance mobility & care. I'm doing my 1st neb of the day now, I'm on all the medication they can give me. When I got my first 'orange' badge, as they were then, I was embarrased and felt very awkward using it, but you get used to it. Prehaps only use it when you're struggling with your breathing? perhaps just park 'closer' to the shops on a good day?
I love having my blue badge. This chap stared at me when I got out of the car as I was walking fine, so I just croaked out b!!!!!D lungs, and he smiled. And oh the sheer joy of parking on yellow lines magic but perhaps I have the wrong mind set 😀😁😂
