Hi has anyone found any benefits from being on Montleukast (Singulair) 10mg daily or any other dose?

Yes I take this everyday (10mg) after starting taking it for my hay fever in May. What great about this medication is that it either works or doesn't work and you will know in two weeks if its for you. I had an asthma review in October and told to keep taking it. My asthma nurse saying I have allergic asthma.

I tried it before and could not tell the difference as I switched preventers at the same time. Did this reduce your hayfever symptoms?

Yes it did I have only get an achy eye (diagnosis ed and confirmed by one of my local GP's) The pollen count was very high this last summer and my eye didn't ache at all.

Yes, I take 10mg every day and it really does help, especially since my asthma is triggered off by a lot of allergens!

Also never had any side effects too. I agree with lishapartington great for allergic asthma

Thank you both for your advice I also take aminophylline for the asthma but not montleukast. I've had a long bout of laryngitis and tried so many things to remedy this but it's just feels allergic to me. Which is why montleukast came to my mind again.

I tried montelukast a few years ago & didn't think that it helped. However my asthma nurse suggested I tried it again this year & it's been brilliant. I can walk a lot faster now & for longer. I have some bad nights, but for me, it's worth it.

That's what I am thinking too this current bout of laryngitis has left my throat inflamed. I just had a lot of inflammation problems this year in my throat.

Is it a standard 2 week trial to determine if it's working?

That's what I like about this mediation it either works in two weeks or not. Very simple

Hi singulair didn't do anything for me..laryngitis can be caused by your inhalers if it is not a virus or infection..

I gargle with thyme tea, a nose and throat specialist told me to in Spain and it helps

Thank you for the advice that sounds like trying out asap!!

Hi. It took longer for montelukast to work for me, probably 4 to 6 weeks, plus sleep disturbances, strange dreams etc. Stuck with it because seemed to be 'last chance saloon' to improve my asthma.....as years went by perfumes of all sorts, plus various foods, caused more and more of a reaction. Didn't know what else might work. Eventually montelukast hit the spot, and even then took months to build to full strength. Been gradually much better over the last year - started it New Years Eve 2016. I was on a train yest travelling north from London. The smell of perfume around me was gross. I lasted longer with it than without monte, but 10/15 mins in, my hub managed to find a carriage with no perfume and a spare seat. I was too busy coughing n trying to breathe to walk around! Once got to new seat and took more reliever, bricanyl, settled down ok. Good as I couldn't leave the train! More asthma over next few hours at home but good again his morning.....or as good as ever get these days! It would have been a week or ten days job in the past. So thumbs up for montelukast from me! (Taking 250 Seretide x2 twice a day as well, plus bricanyl reliever - can't take ventolin, it's another of my triggers) Good luck, folks!

Thank you for the reply- I am tempted to see if my GP will let me try it again or are we looking at increasing something else like the aminophylline 😔

Thank you for sharing your experience.

My symptoms became worse with lots of mucus (sorry). The GP treated me for silent acid reflux, then with Montelukast but neither helped. In fact I became worse and this made me realise that I had post nasal drip. It had crept up on me and I have been using Beconase for several weeks now and realise that my sinuses feel much clearer and the mucus on my chest is reduced. The GP told me to go back to see her but of course, I have been unable to get an appointment! I particularly want to see the same one as she specialises in respiratory problems.

I have a strong suspicion that my rhinosinustis is triggering the throat issues.

Good luck with the appointment and wait for the specialist GP.
