Hayfever

Hello suffering hayfever it is really bad at the moment not enjoying it at all, I can't stop sneezing, my eyes feel sticky I have read if you put Vaseline around your nostrils and wear tight round glasses it helps keep the pollen out, I thought my hayfever was going at one point how wrong was I. I even try nose drops to help at night nothing seems to work has any one else got any tips?

You poor thing, I can totally understand how you're feeling.

I have hay fever and the medications I'm on are Fexofenadine 180mg, Loratadine, Sodium Cromoglicate Eye Drops, Nasonex Nasal Spray and Singulair

It might be worth seeing your GP to discuss your hay fever issues

An old trick (and one that I find quite useful) is to wear sunglasses when outside, even when the sun is not out. I've no idea why it helps (if anyone does know, please post the reason as I'm interested) but it does seem to - at least it does with me.

Hay fever is a common allergic condition which gives rise to symptoms like itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing. Sometimes it is possible to prevent these symptoms by wearing glasses, applying Vaseline around nostrils and staying indoors when pollen is high. In case you are not able to control your symptoms then your GP might suggest you some medication like antihistamines. Antihistamines block the action of the chemical histamine which is usually released when the body is attacked by allergens. This stops the symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes and itching but do not help with a blocked nose. Your GP might recommend you corticosteroid sprays and drops in case you have a persistent hay fever which does not respond well to antihistamines, or a blocked nose is the main symptom or you are breast feeding. Nasal decongestants, eye drops, and corticosteroid tablets might also be given for the same.
