Hi everyone - New to the community. Developed asthma late in life. The annoying symptom is the persistent and embarrassing cough. Decided to try Ginger and Lemon tea and Magnesium today. Are these safe to take along with my asthma medication? Apologies for the image but I love my garden.
I'm a newbie: Hi everyone - New to the... - Asthma Community ...
I'm a newbie
Hello welcome to the forum 😀 Everyone here is very supportive and I'm new to my diagnosis as well and this forum has been very helpful.

Thanks Stacey - looking forward to participating in the forum
Welcome! Don't think there would be any issue, since lemon and ginger are natural and magnesium you can get in nuts, so unless it's some massive dose of Mg don't expect it will have an interaction. You say you have a cough type asthma, is it triggered by anything in particular? Only reason for asking, is a lot of CVA (cough variant asthmas) are triggered by stomach acid. Therefore in the case of lemon and ginger, I personally avoid them like the plague as they drive my acid through the roof....
Thanks for the advice Mark in Wales - it has now turned out that the persistent cough I have been experiencing is a chest infection. Asthma nurse yesterday was brilliant - hopefully, steroids and anti-biotics will do the trick. Will, however, take note of what you say about the acid reflux because I do eat loads of oranges - perhaps these could be causing the usual cough. All I need now to find out is how to prevent chest infections!!!
Don't see why it would be a problem as all three are natural, but watch your symptoms carefully and if anything changes then you will know
Thanks Beth - as I've replied to Mark in Wales, it has turned out that I have a chest infection - hopefully the steroids and anti-biotics will do the trick
My favourite soothing drink for an annoying (non asthma related) cough is one teaspoon grated fresh root ginger and one teaspoon of honey put in a mug and then topped with hot water. LIke Mark_in_Wales_CAV lemon is something I would avoid as my stomach doesn't like it.
Excellent advice MaggieHP - will try this drink - will shop for root ginger next time
Magnesium is apparently good for asthma and I've taken it with my asthma medication x
Thanks Matt - apologies for the late reply. Will continue with the Magnesium - however, it would appear when checking out the thyroid forum that this medication should be taken an hour BEFORE anything else with a large glass of water. This, I will make a start on tomorrow which, hopefully, will help with the tiredness, coughing, etc.
