Weight gain
Have been on fostair since January gained a few pounds but managed to loose them. Only problem is I have a fat little tummy which I hate with a vengeance .
I wasn't aware that inhaled steroids of any type could cause weight gain. I've been on them (including at one time beclometasone which I think is the steroid component of fostair) for nearly thirty years and if anything I have a tendency towards the opposite problem.
Oh, let me tell you how fast you can gain weight when you're on inhaled CS... All it takes is a little genetic predisposition to gaining weight
does asthma medication not have any form of steroids in them then ? O am trying to pin point were all this weight gain as come from then. very frustrating when you go on a strict diet for 6 weeks and not even lose a ounce lol think its time to look at my other meds to try and find out which is the culprit
Don't worry, it's normal. With a lot of dieting and exercise (as far as I can take since my asthma is almost but not completely in control) I have only managed to stop gaining weight. I haven't lost a single pound of what I've gained the last 8 months. But at least I stopped gaining, that's something.
I should look at what you eat - keep a strict food diary. Steroids in tablet form increase your appetite, but they don't make you fat in themselves, unless you have very heavy doses of them. Inhaled steroids don't do this. Lots of people with asthma are underweight, as the wheezing uses up a lot of energy.
I beg to differ. I've only ever been on inhaled ones. I kept a strict food diary and if anything, I've began eating less and more carefully than ever before. But I still gained more than 7-8 kilos over 4-5 months. I'm also retaining water because of them. And if I had not started dieting, and if I had not started working out, I would have gained more.
