Prednisolone dose

Hi Everyone

Just a quick question.  I normally take 8 x 5mg of Prednisolone for 7 days.

Last time I was prescribed it was 6 x 5mg for 5 days.

Is this the same for everyone else or is it a new strategy I haven't come across before?

I was just prescribed 6 by the nurse I saw at the walk in clinic yesterday. I told her my GP usually prescibes 8 and she said that I will be fine on 6. I had 8 from the GP two weeks ago so I think it is just because I went to the clinic.

Hi Andy 

GPs like to prescribe 30mg for 5 days and renew if necessary.. Specialists go for 40mg minimum I found but one told me 35mg for 10 days so who knows. Normally it's calculated according to your weight.

Basically it's lethal so they give you the minimum dosage possible. If you have been to see a hospital consultant the dosage should be in your notes.

          I have always just been prescribed 6x5mgm for 5 days , but from reading other posts on here , dosage and course duration differs for a lot of people.

i was prescribe 6 x 5 by the GP which was then increased to 8 by the hospital. I'm not on a gradually reducing dose - down to four a day at the mo

6 x 5mg is the dose that I've always been given.

Have you been warned about the dangers of bone loss from long term prescribing of  Prednisolone?
