Day 5 of being on Doxycylcline 100mg once a day and feel no better! Said my chest and oxygen levels were fine but my chest feels like it's bruised and being trod on? 2 days off work already this week, may go back to doctors Monday if no better still!

strange you only have 100mg once a day that's for a low grade infection. I just took it twice a day and for 10 days. And no pred? again the consultant had explained to me at first you need to start your 5 days of prednisolone at the same time as your antibiotics because it dries out that mucus and allows the antibiotics to get in there and do their work.

just suggestions to talk through when you go back xx

Yeah I thought that too when I looked at the prescription! It was the first time I've seen her though so don't think she's got any of my previous records on file. She said she thought it was sinus so hoping they help when I've finished them! I've discovered a hot water bottle at night helps my chest too xx

Hi Helen

Just seen your post after replying to another

Just wanted to send you my love as I have been there where you are recently.

Chest feels tight yet I'm being told seats are ok and no wheeze

So then you feel like shouting " well what the hell is it as somethings not right?"

You on steroids for the inflammation?

Sally x

Hi, ah yeah she has given me a very low dose! It was 2 for the first 2 days then 1 until finished. Glad to hear your feeling better :) am feeling a bit better too today after a nice early night xx

I'm glad your feeling a bit better too, it's horrible when you can't do anything ....I didn't even have a cough or anything just couldn't breath .....we will both feel a lot better by the end of out antibiotics ...on wards and up wards lol xxx Veronica xxx

Hi Helen if you don't think it has totally cleared do go back on Monday. If you've got any doxy left in the box no harm in continuing at this low dosage for another couple of days until you get an appointment.

Even it was sinus we know it tends to trickle down the back of out throat straight down our chest and fills up the bronchioles, which are the fine branches of the bronchi and there begins the inflammation..

Anyway clear your nose with sterimar or sthg similar morning and night, blow your nose very gently..

Try to line down breathe in and out fill up stomach then chest on inhaling then squeeze in on exhaling 4 or 5 times and stop just before you cough then on the last time when you feel like coughing bring your knees up on your chest gently cough and hold the position and you'll see it will bring that phlegm up.

Xx

Ooh thank you for all your tips there happy london! I use a salt sinus rinse bottle and salt sachet atm. I will try your breathing techniques lying down too :) xx

in reply toHelennn

That's good I used to just have to watch plastic decay, steralisation for bacteria.. Got a staphylocoque as a result

I prefer disposable physiological serum monodosis now.

There are other tricks I learnt from the respiratory physio but more complex look it up on youtube xxx

Hi Sally, sorry did not reply yesterday was having a down day. Went in to work this morning and I'm now back home as I was sat on the phones coughing down people's ears! Going back to the doctors at 6:50 tonight, feel like these antibiotics have done hardly anything! Xx

I really think you do too!

Asthma cannot be helped but if you explain you need some respite from this as nothing's working they may well give you a course then you'll be right as rain! x

I do hope so! Hmm yeah, me and my partner have not long moved in to our new flat so the worry of money is even worse now! X

AuntSally19 profile image
AuntSally19 in reply toHelennn

Oh bless! Listen this is just a blip and remember that. The steroids will kick in and reduce all the inflammation going on and you will feel well before you know it

Your employer should be understanding and supporting you so don't worry. If you have any concerns it may be worth talking to your HR team if you have one?

Have a restful day and get well! x

Helennn in reply toAuntSally19

Been off work for 3 weeks now but last week thr doctor gave me Mucodyne and I feel so much better, my cough is not half as bad altho I still get breathless climbing stairs. I am hoping that I will continue to get better during this week and can return to work thr week after. Ask ur GP about these meds xx
