Hi Mark,

I have been on Omalizumab (Xolair) for almost 3 years now.

I have 4 injections (600mg) every 4 weeks, some people have 2 injections every 2 weeks. For my initial treatment I had to stay after for 2 hours to make sure there is no reaction, from then on I have only had to wait 20 minutes. I've had no reactions to them at all. Since I have been on it I stopped taking unphyllin tablets, stopped my twice daily nebulisers.

I had not had any hospital trips until just before xmas and I had 6 days in hospital from boxing day, I picked up a bad chest infection was on 40mg prednisolone and clarithromycin and my wife also ended up with bronchitis, so she couldn't visit me and I couldn't look after her..

I am still on quite a lot of meds. Salbutamol, Tiotropium, Ciclesonide, Formoterol inhalers, Montelukast tablets. Meds for high blood pressure, cholesterol, acid reflux and water tablets.

Hi Mark, I've been on Omalizumab for a little over three years. It's not a miracle drug, but it has significantly reduced my asthma to the point where I am mostly able to live my life (although I'm not well enough to work full time). Omalizumab carries a small risk of anaphylaxis and you'll need to carry an epi-pen, but I've really noticed no side-effects at all since being on it. The needles used are very fine and I barely feel them; there's seldom any soreness in the injection site afterwards.

Good luck.

Evening. I have severe allergic asthma. Many meds including phyllocontin, Zafirlukast and prednisalone. I started omalzumab/ xolair treatment about 3 years ago. After multiple hospital admissions and pneumonia which landed me in intensive care. Since starting xolair I haven't had a single hospital admission. My asthma is much better controlled. I still get exacerbations but they are treatable at home. Treatment is hard at first because before starting asthma is normally quite bad, xolair is only given at a number if central hospital locations, treatment is fortnightly at first and there is a lot of paper filling with question aired etc when you start. But stick with it and be patient. If you're someone this treatment works for it is more than worth the extra upheaval of getting it done. Good luck 😊

I have been on them for 18 months and they really help. I have allergic asthma but mine is also effected by other factors is weather viruses etc my asthma has been great through the summer not so good this winter but better than usual ( if that makes sense) I have three jabs every four weeks. Mine were started at Glenfields in Leicester at the asthma unit but I now have them at my local hospital. They are not the nicest jabs and sometimes hurt more than others but I've had no side effects, when you start on them you will have to sit for an hour after for the first few times to check for reactions .. I hope they work as well for you as they have for me if you want to know anything else just give me a shout ... Good luck
