Acid Reflux and Asthma Alternative Medication to Lansoprazole?

Hi Are there any alternatives to lansoprazole and omeprazole? Previously taking PPI omeprazole for acid reflux but was worried as american research stated link between heart disease and strokes (both in family) with prolonged use of these drugs so GP prescribed ranitidine but it is not as effective. Have been ill for 9 weeks with shortness of breath. 3 lots of pred did not shift it but started taking lansoprazole and I was better within 1 day. Any advice greatly appreciated.

There are far worse things that can happen when you take lansoprazole long term or regularly short term. One study I read - and no I CANNOT give you the link as I would not be able to find it again, but I can assure you that I did read it and am not imagining it or making it up - said that good old fashioned fibre works just as well, and another study said that 15 mg a day works just as well as 30 mg a day, but manufacturers don't want you to know that, they would make a lot less money.
