I went to a walk in center last thurs and the doc gave me a 3 day course of pred 5 tablets a day, he also gave me antibiotics, but i'm wondering if the dose wasn't high enough due to still having symptoms and also thought 5 tablets a day for only 3 days was rather an unusual dose.
I will be going back to my gp if my chest stays bad, but was also wondering how doctors decide what dose of pred to give!
Not sure if this will help you, in the past whenever I needed Prednisolone my GP or doctor at A & E have always given me 7 day supply and to take 40mg (8 tablets 5mg in each tablet).

hi. i think pre dose must use enough from the beginning. when the symtom go away.we reduce my dose
hi asthmagirl
normally I either get 6 or 8 tablets to take for 5 days but for some reason the doctor only gave them to me for 3 days which i don't think is long enough for me, the doc told me I sounded very wheezy so I thought the dose would be for longer.
I guess I will just have to go to my normal gp and see what they say, was just wondering if anyone else got prescribed varied doses really. but thanks for the reply
My son who is just under 3 tends to get 5 tablets (25mg) for 5 days when he requires pred. Yet when I took him to the walk in centre they would only give 3 tablets for 3 days, wasnt impressed it wasnt enough or long enough course to get him past the worst of it. X
I normally get 6 x 5mg for 5 days but only ever had them from gp. Maybe the walk in centre are trying to keep prescription costs down hoping if you need more you won't be in such a rush to see someone so will go to your gp.
Hi butterfly
The reason I went to the walk in center was due to not being able to get an appointment with my gp, they didn't have anything until after the weekend which would been to long due to my chest being really bad, and to be honest the doctor I saw was alot more helpful then my regular gp anyway! Just thought the dose was maybe not long enough.
