I have had asthma since I was 10. But for quite some time now I have ""blacked out"" during attacks. Is this normal? I have not always passed out and I am not sure it is asthma behaviour.. My partner say I stop breathing and black out, when I wake up I dont remember any of it.
not had blacking out but feel i could sleep for a week afterwards!! i hope you get emergency help when this happens and don't ever be scared of doing so the people in their green whizzing machines are brilliant.
It isn't acceptable to black out during an asthma attack and so you should seek advice from a resp team or GP/Asthma Nurse. It is something I tend to do myself when I am exhausted with it and usually in an emergency setting like A * E at the time. The only other time I tend to black out is when my Asthma is persistent and I have a chesty on going cough. The constant coughing will cut off my airway and I pass out, thankfully this passing out is brief and I return to conciousness quite quickly.
