I am due to be admitted to RBH later this week for them to sort out my asthma.
I have just a few questions that I would like to be answered, if at all possible.
I am curious as to what treatment they are likely to do to improve things, is it any different from what you get at your local hospital?
Which ward are you admitted to for this treatment?
My consultant is away and Dr Menzies-Gow will be looking after my care/treatment, is he OK?

Hi,
I can't say treatment-wise. I think Victoria ward may be the usual 'asthma' one - it's Lind for minimum-dependency/tests etc but I guess it may depend on how you're doing and what they're doing as they may want to keep a closer eye on you. Not that they don't on Lind! Where were you for your tests?
Re Dr MG: he's my consultant. I haven't seen much of him in person yet so reserving judgment on how he is with me, but he seemed nice (he did actually come up to see me when I was on Lind but I was downstairs having tests so missed seeing him). I know others on here who know him a lot better and have seen him a few times really like him and think he's very good, and that he sorted them out - so you should be fine with him! (I'm only being cautious because I'm seeing him tomorrow and trying not to tempt fate lol).
Good luck with your treatment! Have they not told you what you're having or what ward you're on? I know they can be a bit scatty about that sometimes.
Thanks for the reply. When I had my tests done in under DAP I was in Lind ward. I do not know any details as to what ward I will be in on Thursday nor what treatment they have planned for me, I guess I'll find out soon.
I'm glad to hear that RBH are admitting you to get you a bit more stable, you've had a horrific time recently!
Good luck asthmagirl, you have been having tough times for so long, I hope they can improve things for you! xx
Definitely hope they can sort you out! Just wanted to say I had my appt, and Dr MG is lovely and really does look into things. I feel I'm a lot further along now and that they're really looking after me - with other places I've felt like they leave you to get on with things and don't offer any support in between, but my impression from last week and today is that I'm more than just an annoying awkward odd case; they actually seem to want to get to the bottom of things and actually provide some possible solutions. I'm not there yet, still have several questions but do feel I might get there!
Thank you so much for all your replies, it seems as though RBH are planning to keep me there for 2 to 3 weeks.
Hello Asthmagirl,
Hope you have been admitted ok today. I cannot say what treatment they will do but there are previous posts here from others that may have been in a similar position.
From what I have heard, you will be in good hands with Dr MG - he leads the difficult asthma service I believe.
Good luck asthmagirl! Really hoping they come up with some solutions and you don't get too antsy being cooped up - hopefully you'll be well enough to go out sometimes.
Hello
Good luck with it all asthmagirl
I am around next wednesday if you would like to meet up
hopefully they'll come up with a solution for you
I can honestly say Dr MG is such a good doctor, found him to be so helpful with me and my 'weird/difficult' asthma
good luck with it all

Good luck asthmagirl hope they find some way of stabilizating your asthma.
It would've been lovely to meet up on Wednesday but unfortunately that is the day I have my Histamine test and I've been told that I'll might not be feeling very well after it and they want to monitor me closely afterwards.
I'm around too (most of the week) Asthmagirl.
The challenge should not be too bad - don't know if you've had one before? - but can be tiring esp with spirometry checks and if any reaction.
Did they not manage to do all the tests before as if I remember correctly, you've been in for the difficult asthma work up?
How is your admission so far?
Hello Asthmagirl!
How was your histamine test today? I do hope you were ok afterwards.
Which ward are you on this time? Any more idea on what treatment they can do?
Take care,
TJ
Hello Asthmagirl
How was your tests?
I am around tomorrow morning if you would like to meet up,
I had a lung function test that was followed by the Histamine tests. Did feel very tired after them and my lungs felt very uncomfortable afterwards, just awaiting results of them now, probably get to know today when I get to see Doctor Menzies-Gow.
Got to have an Echo scan this morning.
Morning Asthmagirl
Good Luck for your Echo scan,
Just saw Dr Menzies-Gow so I'm sure you'll be getting your results soon
Take Care

Hello Asthmagirl,
How have you got on today with Dr MG or is your consultant back? Hope test results are useful and you get a treatment plan sorted if it is not already.
TJ
Hope you've recovered from the tests and Dr MG was helpful - any further forward?
Are you still in or have you been discharged? Really hope you're getting somewhere with all this! xx

Got to have an Echo scan this morning. Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your messages.
I'm still in RBH no mention of going home yet.
Thankfully everything OK with my Echo scan.
Hope you are all keeping OK. Good to hear your echo was ok and how about the histamine and lung function? Hope you got on with Dr MG with your consultant away.
Which ward are you on this time? Must be frustrating and perhaps boring with all these tests especially if no further with treatment.
Have you wifi there? A meeting thread has been started for everyone with appts if you would like some company
I'm on Foulis ward and yes there is wi-fi. I have been getting a little bit fed up but I'm trying to keep myself busy by reading and doing crossword puzzles etc.
How do you find the wifi? Seemed very slow elsewhere in the building.
Hopefully you have seen a consultant now, if your own - Dr MG and have some answers.
Mine threw a complete fit, had to restart computer! Sorry to hear you're bored asthmagirl. Are you well enough to go out occasionally or do they not let you? I was pretty bored too when in, lots of waiting around and I almost welcomed tests as something to do!
You are correct I was in RBH in July for a 4 day stay for tests.
They decided to admit me this time to try and get some stability to my asthma because within the space of a month I have had several trips to A&E at my local hospital.
I did have loads of tests done whilst in RBH this time and the consultants dealing with my treatment were Professor Chung and Doctor Menzies-Gow.
The final diagnosis from RBH is that I do have asthma whilst I was admitted they started my Prednisolone steroid tablets reduction which I am pleased about but this will be done very gradual and over several weeks.
I have an outpatients appointment at the end of this month to see how I am getting on.
