Could do with advice A.S.A.P please.

My oldest daughter has severe asthma, its her birthday in a few days. My younger daughter has a viral throat infection. My oldest daughter had a throat infection at the start of may which lasted nearly 3 weeks, this resulted in her having an acute severe attack and getting admitted to hospital. My older daughter is complaining of a dry sore throat, she describes it like it was before she had the couple of weeks before she had the attack. Her asthma isn't great at the minute, she's coughing a bit more than she normally would do in the same situations, she has a wheeze but is responding to inhaler treatment so far, she saw a doctor about it yesterday. If anyone could give me any advice on how to keep her healthy over her birthday, I would appreciate it. She has said a lot that she isn't bothered if she needs to get admitted afterwards for it, she just doesn't want to spend her 18th in hospital.

my only advice is to keep taking the meds and at any sign of trouble get medical help. I wish I had more to say, if I did I would use it on myself!

Hope she is ok, at the first sign of trouble get her seen is the only advice I can suggest.

I spent my 30th in ICU, so I have a huge amount of sympathy for her if she does end up in!

can't offer advice, but from a Mum whos daughter spent her 18th birthday on HDU , it wasn't what we wanted but the staff were fantastic, they put posters up and made it as special as it could be . XX thinking of you

I am keeping a close eye on her. Making sure sure she keeps her fluid intake up and making sure she's sleeping properly. If her condition gets any worse, which it isn't at the minute, then I'll have her get an appointment to see doctor, or go to the walk in centre, or out of hours doctors, see if they can do anything to stop it from triggering her asthma. She is already on high doses of inhaled steroids, long lasting bronchodilators, bronchodilator every few hours and oral steroids, so I'm not sure what they'll be able to do for her.

I don't want to make a new thread, but I don't know where to ask. We are going to Alton Towers for her 18th, a couple of days after her birthday, we have checked were the local hospitals are from Alton Towers, she's had a 2 extra days of 30mg prednislone added in by a doctor, she has a prescription to be able to get new inhalers and is taking her normal ones religiously, but is complaining about feeling nervous about going. Is there anything we can do to help her? Any extra safety precautions we can take?

Re. Alton Towers. Can't think of any extra precautions but presumably she doesnt have to go on the rides if she doesnt want to. It's a fun place, plenty to see. Reassure her she'll be with family who'll look out for her, she's not on her own. Sorry I cant be of more help but hope it goes well for all of you.

Her asthma has only been bad since she had pneumonia last year and we haven't been particularly far from home and local hospitals since. Alton Towers is at least 2 hours/100miles away in the car, she's scared of ending up in the nearest A&E to Alton Towers and possibly need admitting, I don't have any experience with getting admitted or needing hospital treatment away from home so I can't really relate to what she may be going through with it. She went last summer with some friends when her asthma wasn't too bad, she said the rides didn't really do anything to her breathing, although said she felt ill, slept a lot for a few days afterwards and was pretty symptomatic. I have been thinking about possibly taking her to the doctors just to be on the safe side, to see if they'll be able to do anything so she'll be ok just over her birthday weekend, but as said, she is already on a lot of medication for it and our GP says he can't put her on anything else for it.

Alton Towers have a really good firstaid medical place to see to most problems along with plans if ride broke etc. Could always ring up to find out about it and if help for asthmatics eg nebs xxx
