How post times are displayed on the forum

At the moment, post times on the forum are displayed using the new software's default setting which shows them relative to the current time (eg. 6 hours ago or similar). Hovering your mouse pointer over the time will bring up a tooltip which shows the actual time of the posting.

What do people think of this? My first thought is that it seems like a good idea, but I now find myself having to use the tooltip more frequently to check posting times. In addition to this, you can't use the tooltip if you access the forum from a mobile device or a tablet.

Here, then, is a poll to see what you think. Do you like the current set-up, or would you prefer it if the posting times were displayed as a proper date and time?

The poll will run for seven days. Simply click on a poll option above to vote for it.

guess this needs bumping so that more will see and vote

Oh, good point Lou! I think I'll make it sticky so we don't need to keep bumping it.

I'd also like a link directly to the Forum index from the homepage (unless there is one I'm missing - in which case please feel free to point me in the right direction), instead of having to click on a topic to then go back to for example he general forum. Am I making any sense?

Edited to add:

Will there at some point be a way to have an actual profile like on the old boards, with age, county, likes/dislikes etc?

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but I think you mean what this does (it's at the top of every forum page):

Like the ""severe topics"" area, that is one of the things the developers are working on.

Em - Cathy has explained exactly what you were asking! There is a link on the homepage, but it's rather hidden. Go down to the bottom-right of the page and click on this:

I would like to see an area within the forum that relates to severe, difficult, brittle asthma.

The developers are working on this, I believe.

Em, if you click on 'my topics' it displays all the posts posted since you last signed in. Much easier! :-)

Good to know all this - thanks!

Sorry if this is wandering off topic, but any news/estimate on when the PM function will be back?

I haven't heard anything, I'm afraid. It's another thing the developers are working on (more precisely, they're working on adding our ability to moderate PMs, which was a feature we had on the old board).

Thanks! Well hopefully it will be restored soon...

That's what I meant! Thanks!

Em

Apologies for the delay in bringing this to a close (we've been on holiday!), but as you can see the votes overwhelmingly suggest that we switch to showing absolute dates so I will go and make the change.

I intend to leave it for about a month and then do another poll to see if opinion is to leave it or change back again!

Thanks to everyone who voted.
