Cons appointment... interesting...

Had my first consultants appointment today and came away not only exhausted but very confused. I expected to go, talk and then that be it. Not having a tour of the hospital including samples of certain facilities lol.

First were my sats, nothing unusual, lost a little bit of weight/ o2 was 97% and bp was normal. Then i had the lung function test which came back ok(89%). Then when i saw the actual consultant, he said my chest was clear, not wheezy and that i should stop taking my PF (unless i get really unwell and need to check to see if i am ok), though he was convinced that I had asthma, though he said that there was a chance that i could have had an infection with hypoventolating, but i dont think its possible to have an infection for over 9 months lol! especially all the antibiotics ive had! Then I was sent for Bloods (even checking my kidney funtion which was wierd), an X-ray, ECG (think it ws because my heart rate was somthing like 107 beats per min). Then to the pharmacy to collect my new medication, Steritide instead of Becloforte and Serevent, a 10 day course of antibiotics and 5 days of pred at 30 mg. THEN if that wasn't enough it was back to the nurse to check my inhaler techniques and the nurse was running through and when she checked the pred she said ""because you are obviously wheezy"", which the doctor didnt pic up on it LOL!

After that I was finally allowed to come home!

what do any of you make of all this?

Wendy,

I find that when I'm struggling although my peak flow and sats don't go down to worrying levels I struggle to walk and talk and my heart rate increases. Everytime I've been to A & E with asthma they've always said my heart rate is up. When I'm more stable it goes back down to normal.

Beth

yea, i find that happens when i get ill. When I had an appendix that was inflamed, my heart rate wnt right up to 147 bpm, normally when i'm ok its around 70-80.
