Well, I'm a volunteer - one or two of the members of this forum are - and they're brilliant!

If you've got any questions about them we'll be happy to try and answer them.

thnx man

QuestionWhat is the Cost for one of these Kick weeks?

Hi - I'm a volunteer too and have been on 3 holidays - I'm going to Southampton this year. As Steve said, any questions, just ask!

Re. cost - it depends on your financial status. You pay what you can afford - I think it costs about £350 per person but Asthma UK will subsidise what you can't afford. Contact Patrick Ladbury or Nina Fox at Asthma UK for more details. Also check out the Kick Asthma Holiday pages on this site.

Heya!

Well I've been on 2 asthma holidays and they're great! I've been to taunton twice with peaksteve (hello!) and I/m going to Southampton this year. They are great fun and your asthma isn't an issue like it can be around others.

Hi, my son sean is 10 and he has been twice to taunton. He had a fantastic time and talks about nothing else for weeks before and after! He is hoping to go to southampton this year, well he will be when i finally get round to sending his form off :)

Hi Julie, glad Sean had a good time again at Taunton. It's always good to get feedback!

Cathy (who was one of his ""bedroom"" leaders).

PS - dressing gown!!

Two trips to taunton and he manages to lose 2 dressing gowns and 1 coat ! still thats a small price to pay for all the benefits he gets from going. It will be nice not having such long journey this year as well.

I realy wish there was a way of educating every health professional on kick asthma holidays, I only found out about them by mistake while looking online for medication info 2 yrs ago. There are so many children who would benefit that miss out, I am walking round promoting the holidays so much to every doc/nurse sean sees that people prob think im on commision :-)

The first year I left him i was worried sick, was close to tears whole way home, worried all week and watched the clock until he rang eachnight. The second yr (last summer) I was happy to leave him, yeah i missed him but knew he was safe and happy. All volunteers I have met have shown in a very short space of time that they care alot about the childrens happiness and health in a friendly informal manner but left me confident that if sean became unwell it would be recognised and dealt with quickly. I really felt he was as safe with volunteers as he would be with me and i cant ask for more than that!

Thanks Julie for such marvellous feedback. Looking forwards to having Sean on the hols again this year!!

And this time I hope he remembers to take his dressing gown home with him....
