After twenty six years of asthma and copd i thought i would be used to it by now. Since the warm weather and another bad infection along as come the dizzy head and scary feelings all time. Community nurse said its anxiety and depression, i have developed the fear to go out anywhere yet hate staying in house all the time, feel like im trapped which way i look at it at the moment. Has anybody else suffered in this way and mastered there fears. or is time the great healer. thanks for any replies.

ken davis,

Hi,sorry your not having a good time at the moment.

A fear can be that its hard to come to terms with a illness we have no control over and

fear having attacks.

Take small steps at a time try going out just a few yards and then next ,try go to a shop for 1 item.

Each time out progress a little bit.

Pred etc can cause depresion and might be worth talking to your doc or a councIlor

to work with you till you feel on top of things.

Take care and try keep your chin up,things will get better now you have made the first step and

realise your problem.

good luck and take care, things will get better.

love Glynis xxxx.

I had a few tough weeks 14 years ago and felt low and didnt want go out ,but wasnt asthma related,

I soon bounced back and you will to xxxxx

hope you are feeling a little better today.

im sure you will bounce back.

chin up.

welcome pm me any time ,love Glynis xx

The days are getting better for me but i get so bored and wonder what people do all day when stuck with this illness. feel like im wasting my life away at times, i think its the depression and anxiety that must be making me feel this way or is it the steroids sending me nutty. Any ideas welcome please, and all the best to fellow readers on this website who must having the same anxieties in life.take care.

How about going to a evening college course or day course to give you

something to focus on,

Would check with your doc to see if your meds are causing it as some meds esp pred can,

welcome pm me anytime even just to say hi,

I have a lot of time on my hands as work parttime and other medical probs as well as asthma,

love Glyins x

you could be describing me there. i usually only go out if im with my daughter cos it makes me feel more at ease.

I went through a long period of being house bound.

Two things helped me - one was that I simply needed to start living my life again. The second was more practical - I used to talk my pedal bike out walking with me... when I got anxious, paniced and frightened, which was about a zillion times when out and about, I simply squeezed the handle-bars really tight.

Knowing that I had something physical to hold onto, to grip, to lean on somehow helped me and I was able to go just a bit futher each and every day. So I started off going a short distance from the house, then a bit further and then a bit further more.

Hope this helps.
