Actually, if you frequent restaurants, cafes and clubs, you'd be better off staying here in the UK:

France won't be banning smoking in these places until January 2008. Smoking will be banned in the UK in these places from Summer 2007.

Or just move to the Republic of Ireland, where smoking is already banned.

Or Scotland, it was lovely being in Edinburgh the day after the ban was in force and being able to eat in a pub even though my asthma was bad because there was no smoking!

yes, the ban has made a huge difference to going out in scotland. I used to end up in hospital after most pub crawls, but managed a night out with pals hardly needing my inhaler a couple of months ago. Definately a good thing!

well will all have to move to scotland insted.

Yes, Scotland and the Irish Republic have certainly led the way as far as smoking bans in Europe are concerned. And we'll be the next country to have a decent ban in place; Sweden and Italy are other options if you fancy a smoke-free evening out!

It is a bigger deal in France though; they reckon that 30% of the population currently smokes.

youre all very welcome to come up to Scotland :)

As you can probably tell by my name - I'm a bit mad on France ! I'd love to move back there and a ban on smoking makes it even more likely to happen ! Maybe I'll wait till it's in place in bars and restaurants too though... out there as a student was crazy, between lectures everyone just lit-up, you couldn't escape it.

hi scottishmum,

thanks for the invite,

have you got a large house????? ;-)
