Hi
Was it your Gp or a consultant that says you have moderate to severe asthma? What have they based it on e.g lung function? Did they discuss with you what the plan was with regards to treatment?
my gps i dont have a consultant but am trying to get one. No treatment plan just told to see the asthma nurse which i have been doing but im still having lots of little attacks
hi amanda
have a look at the BTS guidelines on asthma as they will give you definitions of both moderate to severe asthma. stages 1-5
roughly as a guide:
mild - controlled with blue + steroid inh - occasional attacks
moderate - blue, steroid, and additional meds - but has attacks
severe - ireliever, steroid, additional meds, and steroids courses - frequent attacks
brittle - reliever, steroid inh, additional meds, steroids, nebs, etc... appears controlled on meds between attacks, but can become very unwell and difficulty in breathing very quickly, frequent attacks, uncontrolled on meds. 2 types of brittle asthmatic.
only consultant normally confirms diagnosis of severe/brittle asthma.
hope this is helpful :S

thanks. My drs dont like refering people to hospital for anything but think i need to see them there as the asthma nurse is helping but not getting much relief from the meds i have.
