Fostair Inhalers
You should be fine with the Fostair inhaler, it's contains two active ingredients, beclometasone dipropionate and formoterol.
Beclometasone is a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are hormones that are produced naturally and have many important functions, including control of inflammatory responses. Beclometasone is a synthetic corticosteroid and is used to decrease inflammation in the lungs.
In asthma the airways tighten due to inflammation and can also be blocked by mucus. This makes it difficult for air to get into and out of the lungs. Beclometasone is used in asthma to prevent the inflammation and excess mucus formation, and therefore help prevent asthma attacks and shortness of breath.
Formoterol is a long-acting beta 2 agonist or bronchodilator. It causes the muscles in the airways to relax. This allows the airways to stay open and the effects last for about 12 hours.
I use Fostair
I also use Fostair, I have been on it for about 4 months and I find it is keeping my asthma well under control.
Some chemists dont seem to stock it and one tried to give me a turbohaler with a different but similar drug, but I insisted on the right drugs and with my assertive nature they apologised and gave me a £10 store voucher!, I believe the BNF says beclometasone should be prescribed by brand name, so make sure it is.
