asthma and IBS

Yes I have asthma and IBS. Recently hubby had a second heart attack and was in hospital for 4 weeks waiting for a quadruple bypass and I had the worst IBS I've ever had. He's doing very well by the way.

Yep! Mine is largely triggered if I have cow's milk, too high a level of pred and/or antibs for too long and of course stress, big stresses like Babs said are of course the worst but sometimes it is the things that you are telling yourself you aren't that worried about! Also if you get a stomach bug or food poisoning it will hit you harder and for longer as I am just discovering! Wholemeal bread and few other things also make it worse.

There is quite a lot out there to ease the symptoms if you haven't found it already I can tell you some.

Best of Luck

Nic

Me too! Was just going to ask if anyone had lactose intolerance too? Been lucky enough with IBS though causing more frequency than anything else & never really flared up, seemed to happen the morning after alcohol & maybe coffee. Started after gastroenteritis at uni in finals. Since last summer though had lots mainly blood tests for coeliac disease/thyroid... and even flexible sigmoidocopy as sibling history of severe ulcerative colitis. Nothing found.

Grrr I only thought about lactose intolerence when saw ad for Lactofree milk and tried the range without any other dairy products. Went back to GP and followup gastro consultant appt. They basically said ""oh yes..."" and admitted hadn't thought about it.

Seems like asthma never comes on its own!

Asthma and IBS

Hi, because I have both and was curious, I went and searched and came up with this on the BBC site. I must say that I was gobsmacked, I had never connected the 2 things together.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/...

Very interesting article you found there, but bad photo!! Makes sense really I know mine isn't lactose because I still have really bad asthma, high mucus production and IBS symptoms if I have the lacto-free products or organic (which is supposed to be dramatically lower in lactose). It is something to do with proteins in cow products???!!! I like soya put it that way!

When I was in an out of hospital as a teenager I was on an insane exclusion diet for both conditions, wasn't allowed yeast, cow proteins, unbottled water (even for brushing my teeth), salicylates and a certain type of sugar or sweetner. I do not necessarily recommend this as it resulted in my poor mother being able to tell you the exact ingredients of nearly the whole of Asda and Sainsburys but I think it did help me prioritise which were the biggest triggers and which I just need to avoid when I am run down.

The photos are bad in that link, looks more like a heavy smoker/COPD/lung cancer patient & there's a ventolin inhaler in the photo with label of steroid? Anyway, don't find generally one affects the others. Have more problems with sinusitis and now waiting for ENT appt in over 2 months.

Not what you're looking for?
