i seem to have a constant cough, caused by my inhalers i think, i sometimes cough that much i seem to pull my chest muscles, i always rinse and gargle afterwards and i use a spacer, it sounds a bit trivial compared to some poor asthma sufferers but would be grateful for any advice

caughing
I get this and it was the first symptom of my asthma. A squeaky cough. It's still here now seven years later. Usually in the hayfever season. Hope you are ok.
I would see your astma nurse or consultant and ask them what they think is best.

Hi there,
I had the same problem, and struggled with my inhalers for almost 18 months. I kept going back to my GP and suggesting that my inhalers were actually causing my symptoms to be worse. I would find I felt OK, but then when it was time to take my meds I would cough for England afterwards, and it would take nearly 2 hours to settle down, and sometimes cause a full blown attack.
The doctor didn't really seem to know what to do, just kept altering the doses.
It was only when I was admitted to A&E 2 weeks ago with yet another attack that some light was shed on the matter. The doc who treated me happened to be asthmatic, and it being Friday afternoon and not busy, he was able to spend some time talking my condition through with me.
One of my main triggers is propellants in aerosols, and he suggested that maybe I was sensitive to the type of propellant used in evohalers. Armed with the information, I went back to my doctor, and I'm now using accuhalers for all my inhaled medication. It's been a revelation. I'm not getting symptoms on using the inhalers. I seem to be able to draw the powder really deep into my lungs and hold it there for ten seconds or longer.
Maybe you could suggest this to your doctor. I know one or two people on here have a similar sensitivity to evohalers, so it's not uncommon.
Hope this helps.

The coughing could be caused by inflammation in your lungs meaning your asthma is not controlled.
I would say go back to your GP and see if he can add in more medication and see if this helps.

Spacer
I discovered when I used my spacer, it made my asthma worse...apparently I am a rare case however I am wondering if this could be your situation too. The cough used to be so dry and I felt sick and light headed and now I would not use a spacer if it was the last resort
At the moment I have a cough late at night and early in the morning. I have a nebulizer which is just the best thing however I try not to use it unless in emergencies. When I was first diagnosed I had one on loan then they told me I had to return it because of shortage, so I invested in my own one.
The nebulizer seems to remove some of the irritation enabling me to go to bed and sleep until the cough wakes me again in the early morning....The ventolin in the nebulizer, plus the emergency blue reliever makes me have spasms in my hands and feet, however I would rather have the spasms than an asthma attack Keep speaking to your Asthma nurse, they can be very supportive when things are not going right!
