Hi, I'm on Pred, third course in three weeks, and I'm having an unusual reaction to it. Rather than putting on weight I'm losing it, to be specific I feel like Niagra Falls (always dashing off to the loo!). I have lost a dress size in two weeks. I'm not complaining about this unexpected benefit, but has anyone else experienced it?

Odd reaction to Pred
Pred works in mysterious ways sometimes.
Have a look at the very long list of possible side effects on the leaflet.
If you are concerned, please ask your GP.
Symbicort has that effect on me. At the moment I'm on two puffs, three times a day. I'm forever dashing to the loo. Night time too. 8(
Here's hoping, nearing my second week. I have notice I'm not eating as much but knowing my luck I'll be getting fatter, haven't got on scales yet and can't do my exercises so I think I know the answer.I'm a grumpy cow at the mo and I can't sleep but that's usual while on the devil pills.
Wish I could say that I have experienced weight loss, but in regards to your Niagra Falls like issue, quite common also. Might worth getting your GP to check your glucose levels as sometimes whilst taking Pred this can affect them, causing diabetic like symptoms like passing loads of urine.
If you are taking the enteric coated tablets (red sugar coated ones) - you aren't allergic to red food colourings are you?
I used to find with pred that I initially lost muscle (5kg between hosp admissions 2 weeks apart- don't have scales at home!) and then start to put on fat and get fluid retention. However the clinical nurse specialist (in Aberdeen) did think I was slightly odd - but she wondered if the effects are more noticeable in someone who is slimmer. I now take dexamethasone as I it seems to work better for me.
Another idea could be thrush? this makes you irritated and need to go? Maybe ring your GP, they could also consider changing to a different form of pred or oral steroid?
