Just weighed myself for the first time since I went on these steroids nearly 3 months now and I've put on just short of 2 stone!!!! I'm distraught ... Is this normal?? My clothes are still fitting me so I'm completely confused. Has anyone else experienced this?

I put around 2 stones on in 3 months while I was on pred, too. I have horrible stretch marks from it. I don't know if its normal, but I just want to let you know you're not alone with it.
Unfortunately the steroids not only cause weight gain but is selective where it puts it... Also it can make u retain water also increasing the weight..... The leaflet provided with the drugs list all the effects of the drug... So it is beneficial to read it .... ... But rember one important thing ....... U may be heavier but least ur still breathing !!!!!
i ve started getting them little fruit things aimed at kids, the raisins etc, i find if i have them to hand i can much away all day and its just fruit 
Yes the buggers have a lot to answer for.Mind you had a shock today !Went weight watchers today and not been since broke up week before xmas.I put on One pound and thats with all the xmas food and on steroids since xmas eve and still on them 4 more weeks.Blinking amazed me as usualy put it on with the dreaded pred munchies.xxx
Im contemplating trying a low carb diet while I'm still on the steroids to see if that helps, but as I'm getting very depressed I'm not sure how I'd cope with it!
Getting used to seeing my very chubby face in the mirror now and I've just dropped down to 25mg of steriods today and I've slept most of the day so far ... seems to be a pattern now that when I drop down I sleep for the next couple of days

Hi MooMoo.Im on steroid reduction and down to 20mg tomorrow.My energy gets zapped and feel low and sleep a lot and also go for long walks get me going and wake me up.Blinking smarties grr! Take care xxx
Hi Glynis, thats another problem I can't walk very far without being SOB and dizzy at the minute so I can't even get out the house for a while on my own. I love my independance and I've lost it all thanks to this flare up

Weight gain on steroids is absoloutley awful, and can literally shatter your confidence especially if you've never been there before.
I saw my eating disorder team after 3 months on high dose steroids because I was so depressed about it. They said you need to remember that a lot of the weight isn't fat, it's fluid. When your on steroids your muscles store a lot of water which they didn't usually, and that's why people on steroids tend to look bloated and not fat.
Also while your on pred extreme dieting is a really bad idea. The immunosuppressant effect of the steroids is bad enough alone, however when you diet/cut out food groups it weakens your immune system even more. I got quite a serious chest infection when I tried the two, and haven't quite been the same since.
If the plan is to keep you on them long term then ask your GP about a referall to a dietician, they can help and can come up with solutions that are both practical and safe!
i faced a choice a few years ago go on pred permantly and live but deal with the side effects or die i chose life i went from a size 14 to a size 22 but i'm alive what people sometimes don't realise is that pred can aslo bring on anxiety and depression and increase your appitite no end so you have the fliud rentention and if like most people do you eat because you feel awful and low
