Thank goodness its not long now until the smoking ban. I haven't been out since my illness in January. Strange really cos 14th June was my 2nd year anniversary of giving up smoking. How did i smoke with asthma? I think it will encourage people to give up.
I'm so looking forward to having a social life again!!
I am so looking forward to July 1st!! No more worry about going into smokey pubs etc... worrying about spoiling it for my friends and them not having to worry about me. I think it will be great!
Now what's the chance of cigs being banned completely? ;oD
Christine
Me and my friends have planned a night out for the first saturday of the ban!!!
Don't ban cancer sticks, just quadrouple the tax/duty on them. That will generate much more money for the Health Service. A £1 a stick has a nice ring to it.
I can't wait either!! My boyfriend is a musician so it will be really nice to go out and watch him play - usually I have to stay at home because of the smoke.
The smoking ban is already in in Northern Ireland and I am over here at the moment and it makes going out for food or a drink with family and friends so much easier.
Roll on July 1st for everyone!!x
Hmmm not sure if raising tax on cigarettes would put off all ‘addictive’ type peeps. Says she munching on her £1 per little choccy ‘stick’ Godiva chocolates. Twas a wonderful pressie, but will be munching on whatever is left chocolate wise, less expensive G and B’s -personal favourite, -or cheapie Mars Bar later on (My choccy addiction is classless and holds no bounds!)
Seriously, I can’t wait until July 1. Then, might be able to NOT look as if I’m acting like a prima donna when simultaneously entering then rapidly exiting a pub if the atmosphere is smoky, -a big trigger for me concerning breathing probs.
Work environment – both internal and external re campus has already been ‘smoke free’ for a year. But smokers – as will all addictive personalities - always find a way of circumnavigating ‘rules’ whether or not laid down in law.
So the smokers in my work environment and team now smoke in their cars, - on the car park! Their rationale is that the car is just an extension of their private home environment!!!
I have many ‘smoking’ family, friends and work colleagues, and I’m so pleased they will not be able to smoke as many cigarettes after July 1….
Sarah22 - I'm the the reverse situation to you; I'm a musician, and my wife (CathBear) is asthmatic. She wisely avoids the especially smokey venues, and some of the place I play at are sports halls or community centres which have been no smoking places for years. But in two weeks time she'll be able to come along to whichever venues she wants to without having to first consider the effects of the atmosphere!
Roll on July 1st.
My partners a singer in a rock band. I haven't watched him play since way before christmas. I can't wait to go out and watch him.It will be nice having a social life again
I live in ROI And it has Been In effect for 3 years. It is fantastic. I can go into restaurants and Pubs without needing My inhaler. I know someone who does not agree with it because she thinks People who smoke don't get ""rights"". Ie-They Should Have a smoking Room.I think this would Make a healthy debate!!!
