I was wondering how you would explain you feel during an asthma attack? people often ask me how it feels so when i take an attack they can maybe be a bit more sympathetic but i really don't know how to describe it in words etc. can anyone help?

like running up and down the stairs many times breathing through a straw?
Trying to run for a bus while attempting to breathe through a macdonalds milkshake with an elephant sat on your chest and choking on a fish bone.
I always reckon it must feel a bit like drowning...........mind you, that doesn't really help as most people won't have experienced drowning!!!
You could try getting a glass of sand and sticking a straw in it and telling em to breathe out thru it....(be careful they dont breathe it in thou)
Oh get them to take a massive breath in...then another one on top and then another one until they cant possibly take anymore in tell em to hold it til it hurts and then go ...thats what it feels like....
Trying to eat a whole Easter egg in one go (my sister's party trick!) whist's having your nose plugged with cotton wool and broken ribs to boot
or
perhaps trying to do a ""River Dance"" routine on the top of Mount Everest whist chocked up with the cold!

Ps The Elephant siting on your chest is a good one !
Thanks for all those - i just find it a hard thing to describe. If i'm having an attack i'm scared but i'm also trying to take control so i find it hard to describe.
i def like the elephant sitting on chest idea - i sometimes describe it as someone has tied rope round my chest and is tightening it. does that make sense?
