Hospitals in Keswick

I am going to Keswick end of July, and I need to know where the local hospitals are because my asthma is very uncontrolled.

Can anyone help?

Considering the nature of the roads up in Cumbria, I would suggest that calling for an ambulance in an emergency situation would probably be the best bet.

Thanks for that Steve!

as steve has said, phone for ambulance if caught out with asthma in the lakes. i've been taken ill there before, and if going from keswick you'll probably be taken to kendal hospital. if further north you may be taken to carlisle, or if west to bury, but kendal is main hospital in the lake district. from what i remember it was okay when i was taken there.

i hope this helps.

becky.

thanks. Were they ok with dealing with someone with asthma. The problem I have is I'm not breathless when I have an attack always, but I get very tigh chested, coughing, croaky voice.

it was a long while ago that i landed in costa del kendal, but it was my asthma that sent me there. from what i remember they were pretty good, and seemed to manage quite well as my father passed out next to me in resus at the sight of a syringe full of my blood. lol

you could contact them before you go to let them know you'll be in the area and the state of play with your asthma. or maybe get a letter from your gp or cons explaining what symptoms you present with and the best course of action for you.

when are you heading to the lakes? i hope you have a good time, with no need to sample the delights of lake district nhs facilities.

Hi Bronnie,

As Becky states - take a note or letter with you that states your symptoms and usual treatment. I always carry around with me a complete treatement protocol with information like ' I do not wheeze when bad' because I may sound OK but I am usually strugling like mad! I write my own with my consultants aproval.

Anyway , I hope you enjoy your holiday and don't worry about your asthma. All that nice fresh mountain air ... and sheep!

Take care

Kate

Thanks Kate that is really helpful.

I am going to ask in a couple of weeks even though i dont' go yet because it takes them a few weeks to do anything.

It's irritating when they go by your pf - cos my pf can be 300 but I can feel inside like I can 't breathe

Hope you have a good time in Cumbria-technically the nearest hossie is Whitehaven where I abode but I am not sure if it has a specialist respiratory ward-Im sure you wont need it-enjoy!!

thanks Bluejam

When I was at a watersports camp at Coniston in the Lakes last summer I was taken to furness general in barrow by ambulance twice, second time they kept me in.

although most use your pf as a guide they should also go on how you say you feeling like you i don't wheeze but cough and get very tight chested and breathless occasionally and have to say never had any trouble in a and e yet though pf can drop quite suddenly.

have a great time and just never forget to carry your ventolin with you.

I do carry my salbutamol with me all the time - but when I'm bad I take it 6 to 8 times a day.

thats ok taking mine nnore than that at mo. good luck for having great time.

Thanks Katharine.
