Seretide as opposed to taking Flixotide and Serevent

Hi

I take Seretide 250mcg (2 puffs am & 2 pm). My friend takes Flixotide 250mcg and Serevent 25 mcg (same dosage). Are we actually taking the same?

Any feedback appreciated.

Hello Carla,

I think yes is the answer.

Some people take them separately so that they can step up the steroid component if needed ( Under instruction from a Doctor!) though I use Seretide and have Flixotide to step up if needed.

I can't think of another reason for prescribing them separately if they are not being used concurrently.

The Seretide combination inhaler was introduced as it is more compliant with some patients as there is only one inhaler to remember to use!

Hi Carla, think you are yes.

I take both separately, but take 4 puffs of the flixotide twice a day, and when taking that much seretide was having so much of the serevent component that it was giving my horrendous cramps and made me feel ill, also had the accuhaler and cons didn't think i was taking enough of the flixotide bit in properly, so now on separates through aero chamber - takes longer but hopefully will work better for me! My cons said that by taking separately some people get more of the drug into them - not sure if that was to persuade me to take it separately or not tho!

At the end of the day - it's what works best for you
